The GM Free Food List shopping guide
Preamble:
Go behind the label and get the facts on genetically engineered foods
What's going on behind the label of the food on our supermarket shelves? A
secret genetic experiment - and how are you supposed to know that when there are
no mandatory labelling laws in South Africa. A recent report called Detection of
GMO in food products in South Africa: Implications of GMO labelling, offers
vital insights into what is actually happening in South Africa due to a lack of
agreed-upon standards for organic products, and effective labelling of
others.
So what can we do?
- Print a list of the gm content of foods and take it to the supermarket with
you
- Use sustainable alternatives such as organic;
- Take action to demand labelling of GM foods
- Make a donation to SAFeAGE to further the work of this campaign.
